Academic Team practices in the fall and the spring on Tuesday/Thursday from after school until 4:00pm.  The fall competition is the Hamilton County Spell Bowl (October) and the spring competition is the Hamilton County Academic Bowl (all subjects-March). It is open to all students.

Best Buddies is a student-run friendship club, which creates buddy pairs between students with and without disabilities.  We meet twice per month, mostly on Thursdays.  There will be one after school meeting, and out outside of school events (bowling, basketball game, movie night, etc.).

If a student is chosen for the production, practices are 2-3 times a week after school for multiple weeks.  The production will be before winter break.

ESports, or electronic sports, involves competitive video gaming in a structured, team-based environment.  Students work together to play popular games developing important skills such as teamwork, communication, strategic thinking and digital literacy.

What is the Inclusive Youth Group of Noblesville (IYGN)?

The Inclusive Youth Group of Noblesville (IYGN) is a welcoming space where LGBTQ+ students and their friends can come together to support one another, share ideas, and help create a more inclusive community. Everyone is welcome—whether or not you identify as LGBTQ+—because allyship and friendship make our community stronger.

At Noblesville West Middle School, IYGN provides both support and advocacy for students, while also offering a space to be creative, have fun, and connect socially. From art projects and games to themed events and awareness activities, members have the chance to express themselves, build friendships, and contribute to making our school a kinder, more inclusive place for all.

A group like IYGN is especially valuable in middle school, a time when students are beginning to explore and express their identities. Having a safe, supportive environment can make a world of difference. By promoting understanding, kindness, and respect, IYGN helps reduce bullying, combats isolation, and celebrates the uniqueness of every student.

Meeting Information:
IYGN meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month starting in November. Students can take the late bus home after meetings—parents can sign up for the late bus here.

National Junior Honor Society is an organization that recognizes 8th grade students who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, service, citizenship, leadership and character. 7th grade students who meet the initial criteria (have earned all As with the exception of one B+ in their classes all year, have no discipline issues on record, are involved in a variety of activities, and have demonstrated kindness, compassion, integrity and character in the classroom) may apply in the spring of 7th grade. Members are then selected by a faculty council. The new class begins their year of membership at the start of 8th grade. NJHS members are expected to complete 15 hours of community service, maintain excellent grades and continue to demonstrate strong leadership and citizenship skills throughout the year. The NWMS National Junior Honor Society volunteers at many community events throughout the year. The club also organizes its own service activities and projects during the school year.

Independent hours are thus named because students are responsible for seeking these opportunities on their own. Service needs to be for a community organization/program/event.

NJHS students have volunteered at:

• elementary school programs/events
• the humane society
• food pantries
• nursing homes
• day camps for younger kids
• libraries
• local hospitals
• Special Olympics
• public parks/greenways (picking up trash/pulling weeds, etc.)

Club Hours come from service projects planned and conducted by our NJHS chapter, and from outside volunteer opportunities that our chapter has agreed to help with, as a group, such as:

• after-school tutoring at NWMS 
• our holiday toy drive
• our fall coat drive
• Box Tops for Education 
• weeding and harvesting the NWMS garden 
• card-making for Riley patients
• bingo with residents at local nursing homes 
• helping with Noblesville Schools events, such as Haunted Hinkle, Hinkle Hey Day, NS Learning Showcase, NWMS Robotics Competitions, etc.

Any current band student in good standing can participate in Pep Band.

Pep Band practices after school during the winter on Tuesdays/Thursdays until 4:00 pm.  They play select girls and boys home basketball games.

Robotics club is for students who have an interest in robotics and coding.  We work to build robots to compete in competitions at local events.  We strive to compete once 2nd nine weeks and once 3rd nine weeks in order to get as many teams to qualify for state competition in late Feb/early March.  There is a nominal fee to cover competition entry fees as well as a club T-Shirt. This fee will be announced early in the season.  Robotics meets on Monday and Friday mornings at 7:30 AM.  First meeting will be announced via the school announcements.

Any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student interested in activities such as drama, performing skits, radio broadcasting, or world events, the NWMS Speech Team might be just the thing! Within the first 2-3 weeks of school starting, students will have the opportunity to apply for student council.  It is an application process, where students will be asked to answer essay questions, plus get referrals from prior year teachers (6th grade will contact 5th grade teachers).  Students should listen for announcements stating when these applications are due. (In late August/early September).  Once on student council, students will break into sub-committees and work on many projects to promote and support staff, students and community at NWMS.

This student club meets daily during SLT and is responsible for writing, recording, and editing fresh video announcements using the latest equipment and software. Our small team works hard to produce fun content in an efficient and engaging way; keeping everyone informed of current events at our school.

Yearbook is a group that is responsible for documenting and recording our entire school year! We work hard to put together a book of lasting memories that we'll look back on for years to come. Yearbook staffers get the chance to record games from the sidelines, interview their fellow students, and document clubs and sports. Yearbook is a lot of work, but a LOT of fun!

Note: Yearbook staff members are selected after an extensive interview process in March.
